This is a great application. My soon-to-be 2 has been using it for about 3 months and learned a lot. The options menu lets you make your choices and size. The large picture choice is great for my baby. Once you choose appropriate settings you have two main modules. One mode asks the child to identify the object by saying "Can you find the XXXXX.". When the child taps, it gives a positive or negative feed back depending on the choice. The child can tap on the word to repeat the sound. The second mode is matching. Displaying only 6 cards on the screen is great for small clumsy hands. I saw no other app with this. Great application and my baby loves it. I highly recommend this.
Suggestions or possible improvements:
When the child picks the object asked, the application says, "Yey, you did it" or "Good job" and when the wrong object is selected it says "Thats not it" or "Try again." Instead, the application should say "Look for a book" or "Thats not a book" (or whatever the object is) for wrong choice and "Thats a book, Great" or "You found the book, Yey" for correct choice. Or something in those ines would reinforce the learning better than the current responses.
If the child taps on something repeatedly (word or object), it keeps on giving the response (repeating the word or "thats not it") as many times as the child taps. By the time the app is giving its 3rd or 4th response, the child may have moved on and be pressing something else, but the application continues with its responses for the initial taps. To correct this, there should be some latency during which the taps are ignored. Say the child tapped 3 times quickly and the applications response to the first tap has just completed (like saying "thats not it") in that time, the later 2 taps should be ignored and the app should be ready for the next tap. This will also improve learning by giving a timely response to the childs choice, instead of a choice made several seconds ago.
But for wanting these two improvements, I would have rated this 5. Excellent application.
